chichen itza tour

We will depart from Playa del Carmen to visit one of the most spectacular sites in the Yucatan region (300ha). Chichen Itza its probably the biggest religious center in Yucatan and still now its one of the most important and most visited sites in the region. In July 7th, 2007, Chichen Itza became on of the new seven wonders in the world. We will have lunch at 13H30 and then we will visit a connote to refresh ourselves.
We will take the road to Valladolid a small colonial town, very valuable for Mexican History. You will see a lot of the local people dressed with the traditional clothes from the Yucatan region; its 7 churches, its convent and the main square surrounded by building in pastel color.

We will be back in Playa del Carmen at 17H30.

Public Price: 80 USD

2 : Tulum & Coba Tour

ruines Tulum

We depart from Playa del Carmen to discover the archeological site of Coba, an ancient Mayan site hidden in the jungle; it is the home of the highest pyramid in Yucatan and it is the only one that we can climb to get a spectacular view of the jungle. It is one of the most important sites in the Yucatan peninsula, only comparable to its eternal rival Chichen Itza. Archeologists consider that Coba must had a population of about 50 000 inhabitants at the peak of its glory

We will leave for Tulum; lunch will be in a small restaurant with typical Mayan food; after this we will visit the ruins of Tulum along the coast. This seems like a small and very modest site (6km2 a long the coast) in comparison with Coba and Chichen Itza, but it was built in an exceptionally natural site right along the coast of the Mexican Caribbean Sea, built on top of a small hill which gives it a particular importance. Most of its temples where used for religious ceremonies.
We will be back in Playa del Carmen at 17H00.

Public price: 85 USD

3 : Rio Lagartos & Ek Balam Tour

rio lagertos tour

We depart Playa del Carmen for EkBalam, and ancient Mayan town, that aren’t very known. The excavations that started in 1994 have revealed amazing sculptures and a fine job in stucco. The city was a religious, political and economical center surrounded by three walls. Here you can find three beautiful buildings.

After we will go to Rio Lagartos, a fishermen’s village that is in the access of a natural reserve. Here we will have a Mariscada for lunch (seafood).

We will visit the Rio Lagartos lagoon, a true paradise for bird lovers; more than 200 species, it is the biggest reserve for the pink flamingo in Mexico (30 000) we can also encounter pelicans, eagles and crocodiles.

We will be back in Playa del Carmen at 19H30.

Public price: 90 USD

4 : Mayan Tour

ek balam tour

This tour will lead you straight to the heart of the Mayan culture – the old one and the one from present day.

We depart Playa del Carmen for EkBalam, and ancient Mayan town, that isn’t very known. The excavations that started in 1994 have revealed amazing sculptures and a fine job in stucco. The city was a religious, political and economical center surrounded by three walls. Here you can find three beautiful buildings. In Nuevo Durango we will learn the way of life of the Mayans in present day, the guardians of the traditions and the knowledge in Yucatan; this is a small town where we will visit and orchard (horticulture and gardening) where they use permaculture (ecological farming system very similar to the one used in the ancient times respecting the biodiversity of the surrounding ecosystem). Here is where we will learn about the traditional culture of the peninsula and where you can buy fruits and vegetables (according to the season) that we will cook later. In fact, we will help in the food preparation; this gives us a great opportunity to try new dishes.
After lunch we will go into town where a descent via rappel will take us to a fresh water-relaxing mirror. (We have the option of a dry cave instead according to your preference).
We will visit our friend Manuel, whom thanks to his passion for animals in the Yucatan area, wants to reintroduce de Virginia deer that lost their habitat due to hunting and are in constant threat in this region. In his huge land we will learn about the different species in the area and the reproduction programs.
Here we will also find some typical beehives (on the trunk of the trees) for the conservations and preservation of the Mayan bee “Melipone Bee” which is in the process of extinction.

Public price: 110 USD

5 : Adventure Tour

abeille

If you are in the search for a popular touristic place full of people, this tour is not for you. We will take you where almost nobody else has gone and nobody else will take you. We will visit some Mayan ruins in the middle of the jungle, where it has taken over the whole place in its entire splendor. An ancient Mayan site where only a few people stop to admire nature. Here we will learn about the production of the famous melipone honey, made by the Mayan bees, invaluable for the locals. After this visit we will go to one of the most decorated cenotes in the area; the huge stalactites reflect in the water with an unsettling quietness, here we can refresh ourselves in the water.

The Phocea Mexico team rates this as one of the most beautiful cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula, after having explored hundreds of water wells since 12 years ago.

Later we will have lunch with our friend Chucho; where his wife Daisy will cook delicious dishes for us and if we are lucky we will be able to play an epic football match with the kids in the neighborhood.
We will visit a dry cave where for about 2 or 3hrs you will discover one of the most beautiful in the area, but forgotten by many (to our advantage): here we will find pots, paintings (hand prints) and prehistoric walls; (yes prehistoric, not only prehispanic, proof of this are the stalagmites), we will find rooms fully decorated with thousands of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, curtains and concretions some more beautiful than others. The access to this cave is via mountain bike through the jungle on a 2km road. On this day is very likely we wont see any other tourist. These millennial caves have a great archeological and anthropological value.

Public price: 95 USD

6 : Nature Tour

There isn’t only Mayan and colonial sites in the Yucatan peninsula, for this trip we propose to discover the magnificent fauna that lives in this region.
Mexico is part of a very coveted list of 17 countries considered the ones with the most diversity in terms of biodiversity. If we are lucky we will be able to observe the hauling monkeys, many different types of birds and reptiles. In this reserve we can enjoy a zip line with an amazing view and we can kayak in the lagoon.

We will visit a village where we will learn the way of life of the Mayans in present day, the guardians of the traditions and the knowledge in Yucatan; this is a small town where we will visit and orchard (horticulture and gardening) where they use permaculture (ecological farming system very similar to the one used in the ancient times respecting the biodiversity of the surrounding ecosystem).
